- What is the North American Development Bank (NADB) and what does it do?
-
NADB is a binational financial institution capitalized and governed equally by the United States and Mexico for the purpose of financing infrastructure projects that enhance environmental conditions, promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life of people living along the U.S.-Mexico border. For more information see Mission.
- Why does the Bank only work in the border region?
-
The Bank was specifically created by the governments of Mexico and the United States to address environmental problems and infrastructure needs along the shared border between the two countries, which have been exacerbated by rapid population growth and industrialization over several decades. The Bank’s geographic scope is defined in its charter.
- If a project is located outside the Bank’s jurisdiction, can it still be considered for financing?
-
A project may be considered eligible for NADB financing even though it is not located within the defined border region, if the project would remedy a transboundary environmental or health problem affecting the other side of the U.S.-Mexico border, such as a shared water basin or air shed.
- Can the Bank provide financing for the early stages of developing and designing a project?
-
Yes, NADB loan financing may be used to cover costs related to land acquisition, site preparation and development, design, construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, improvement, the acquisition of necessary machinery and equipment, legal, finance, and development costs, interest during construction, contingency or reserve funds, customs and other duties, and other incidental costs approved by NADB.
- Can a private company access technical assistance funds?
-
Yes, private-sector sponsors can access technical assistance funds for the development of their projects. However, all such sponsors, without exception, must agree to reimburse the funds within a timeframe established by NADB at the time of funding.
- Can my company participate in bidding opportunities even if it is not a U.S. or Mexican company?
- Do suppliers, contractors and consultants have to register with the Bank in order to participate in procurement opportunities for NADB-financed projects?
- How can I learn about business opportunities with NADB-financed projects?
-
Procurement opportunities with NADB-financed projects are published in the Bank’s electronic newsletter, NADBank News, and posted on the Bank’s website. To subscribe to the newsletter or to view past issues, see NADBank News.
